This is a phrase my friends here a lot from me. There’ve been countless times in which I stop a conversation completely so I can whip out my phone and sloppily text myself whatever they’ve just said that has me practically peeing my pants. Taken out of context, the things my friends say under the influence of insomnia or hysteria or sometimes both are hardly funny at all, so I’ve taken to carrying around a notebook to properly record their beautiful rendition of the English language. Thus inspiring the idea for a weekly (or bi-weekly, or whenever somebody says something I feel is accessible and relatable to the internet world) post about the things they’ve said. I’m realizing more and more, as I go through the scraps of paper, computer Stickies, texts or actual recordings of hilarious quoteables that it’s not just my friends who spew ridiculousness- its everyone in my life. My family, teachers, strangers on the street… I’m starting to think in some way I’m in someway encouraging the insanity that causes these quotes to come to life. I cannot be held liable for the things they say. I’m merely a scribe.

Saw Anna today in the mall, which reminded me of how much I love her.

In the same way, what is De La Soul doing in the Gorillaz Plastic Beach LP?? Absolutely fantastic.

Here’s something to help you get more acquainted with De La…

But where did this track from? Gorillaz took influence from De La the same way De La takes influence from Steely Dan’s ‘Peg‘. My Dad heard “Eye Know” for the first time and pointed out, in his words, that they had totally ripped of his favorite band. Despite my Dad’s animosity towards De La for “Feeding off of Steely Dan’s success”, in his words, I love it. I think they completely did justice to the SD sample.

I think incorporating old classics with new modern anythings is important- it’s how things grow and progress. I just hate how artists like Flo Rida and Jason Derulo take songs and completely change the foundation of the music to fit with their vision. I mean, you include a sample from a classic because you appreciate the classic- why mess it up by speeding it up, putting it in a different key or adding ridiculous techno effets? You start off with a recognizable, popular, older sample because it’ll be a strong foundation… Don’t try and mess with the concrete.

In conclusion:

Good friends in weird places (i.e. Anna at the mall, De La in Gorillaz, Steely Dan in De la)

= good.

Good friends in bad places (i.e. ‘You Spin Me Right Round’ by Boy Geroge in Flo Rida’s terrible mash up, Imogen Heap in that ‘Watcha Say’ song)

= horrible.

Today is the day

Today was hectic. Like, amazingly hectic. Things at the BDC blew up, car was in the shop, had field hockey right after work, had to buy a jump rope- the everyday struggle, if you will.

And then I came home and watched this and felt I needed somewhere to put it. Somewhere centered. Somewhere I could sort the things I see and my opinions on them properly.

Facebook? No, no one cares about anything but pictures and FarmVille.

Twitter? No, it’d get lost among Lady Gaga posts and trending topics.

So, where?

Here. This is the place. If you want to read what I have to say, I won’t just throw it on some page where you’ll be forced to see it because it’s on a feed. If you’re here, than there’s a reason… or maybe you were Google searching “mmorable quotes from good will” and this popped up. Either way, you’re here… and you’ve read this far… and I like that.
